For the one who can never remember the specials. Is there someone who always draws a blank when asked about the daily specials? This award is a humorous nod to their selective memory.

7. The Clean Sweep Award

8. The Fire Extinguisher Award

For the chef who's a master of disaster control. Every kitchen has that one chef who can handle any culinary catastrophe with grace. This award is for them, the calm in the culinary storm.

9. The Cash Register Chime Award

For the cashier who makes every customer smile. This is for the cashier who greets every customer with a smile and a joke, making the chime of the cash register a sound of joy.

Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation Week is here! Also known as National Teacher Week, it occurs on the first full week of May in the United States and Canada. Teacher Appreciation Day occurs on Tuesday of Teacher Appreciation Week.

If you want to do it up right, see if you can top the fine folks over at "Sweeten Your Day Events". In 2014, they threw a themed Hollywood Teacher Appreciation Week at their school, entitled "You're a Star".

Here are some of the things they did to make the teachers feel special:

  • "One of the most popular things that the teachers look forward to during this week are the door decorations!
  • About 2 weeks before the event I put up flyers around the school to get the students and teachers excited.
  • We also sent home reminders sheets to all the students of the daily activities so they could come prepared.
  • Each day we treated the teachers and staff with food or refreshments in the lounge to enjoy.
  • Each morning we had the principal play a little Oscar music and announce a few funny teacher awards over the speakers. It was a great way to spotlight everyone. Here were some of my favorites..."
From 101 Funny Teacher Awards by Larry Weaver
These are from my collection of 101 Funny Teacher Awards. I have to tell you, it feels good to see how people make fun and creative uses of these awards. They really went the extra mile!
"We went around to all the classrooms and delivered the certificates along with a little star trophy. The kids all clapped and cheered for their teachers, so adorable!"
Small trophies with the award add that extra touch!
Thank you to Jen H. for your wonderful ideas. I hope it inspires you all to have the BEST Teacher Appreciation Week ever!

Administrative Assistant Day - Free Certificate of Appreciation

Administrative Assistant Day is actually a misnomer for Administrative Professionals' Day, although no one really calls it that. [Queue best Billy Bob Thornton in Sling Blade voice] Some folks call it Secretary's Day, some folks call it Executive Admin Day, some folks call it Office Managers Day...

No matter what you call it, the unofficial holiday occurs on the Wednesday of the last full week of April. If one day isn't enough time for you to celebrate, the entire week is known as Administrative Professionals Week (formerly known as Secretary's Week).

Typical gifts for Secretary's Day include cards, pins, flowers, gift certificates, lunch, and gift baskets. The  International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) suggests that employers support the holiday by providing training opportunities for their administrative staff through continuing education, self-study materials, or seminars.

So throw a party. Buy some gifts. Arrange some training.

Just don't ask your Administrative Assistant to plan their own party. What are you, a cast member from Mad Men? This is their day to enjoy!

Funny Office Superlatives

When I wrote the original collection of Funny Awards in 2008, it had an obvious office slant. This largely came from my own experience working in an office environment.

In 2013, I set out to put all of the office-specific awards into their own collection for the first time. The result is “101 Funny OfficeAwards.”

From 101 Funny Office Awards by Larry Weaver
Whether it’s a corporate office, church office, or manufacturing plant office, there are certain situations and references that are unique to office culture. From cubicles to computers, meetings, break rooms, desks, office gossip — 101 Funny Office Awards covers it all.

I find the best source of awards inspiration comes from performing at company office parties.

I hear the same things everywhere – the coffeepot is always empty, Internet surfing is restricted, and the office temperature is too hot (or too cold). Sound familiar?

Managers want to show employees that they are fun and have a sense of humor. Unfortunately, their attempts at humor often border on inappropriate or offensive.

If you’re trying to come up with your own office awards, don’t worry. I've done the work for you.

Some of the office superlatives honor those co-workers who are:
  • most likely to pass off work to others
  • least likely to commit to anything
  • most likely to lose paperwork
  • most likely to extend meetings
  • most likely to surf the Internet
  • most likely to dress casually
  • most likely to devour the break room food
  • most likely to send emails in ALL CAPS

I am serious about customer satisfaction. Every purchase comes with my cell phone number. If you have any issues, I’m here to help.

If you want to purchase 101 Funny Office Awards, look for 3 things: written by “Larry Weaver”, my photo on the cover, and “funawards.com” in the URL. Purchase directly from me at www.funawards.com/office-awards

Funny Certificates for Employees

When it comes to Funny Employee Awards, there is one name you can trust – Larry Weaver. This prolific author and professional stand-up comedian released the first edition of Funny Employee Awards in 2008. He had no idea he was starting a worldwide phenomenon.
From 101 Funny Employee Awards by Larry Weaver
Weaver doesn’t claim that he came up with the concept, only that he introduced it to the masses through his original site, FunnyEmployeeAwards.com

He began incorporating the awards into his stand-up comedy performances for company events as early as 2006.

He later moved operations to FunAwards.com – both to expand into non work-related awards, and because the domain was shorter and easier to remember.

There’s no denying that Weaver is an expert at using humor in the workplace. He has the unique experience as both a professional touring stand-up comedian, and as company employee.

Weaver has a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina and worked for 10 years as a consultant. He’s seen his share of interesting employees and unusual workplace situations.

Some of the 101 employee awards honor those employees who:
  • can fix anything
  • are never around
  • love Wednesdays
  • don’t explain things well
  • are ready to go when needed
  • always puts foot in mouth
  • will eat anything left out
  • are eager to quit working
  • always tells the truth
  • start the week in a bad mood
Funny Employee Awards has been used across the Globe. The original book is even registered at the U.S. Copyright Office.

Weaver is fanatical about customer satisfaction. Every purchase comes with his cell phone number. He personally handles all support calls. And he offers a 30-day, money-back guarantee.

Weaver sells the employee awards directly to consumers through his site FunAwards.com

If you want to purchase 101 Funny Employee Awards, look for 3 things: the author’s name “Larry Weaver”, his photo on the cover, and “funawards.com” in the URL.

Paper Plate Awards

Does anyone know who came up with the idea for paper plate awards? Apparently the concept involves a paper plate, a Sharpie (magic marker), and... well, that's it. You come up with a funny award idea and write it on the paper plate. Is that it?

I guess you could break out some glitter or stickers if you're feeling fancy.

I'd love to know the origin of paper plate awards. Did they start at camp or scouts? Aren't they pretty much just a variation of funny superlatives and most likely to awards? If you have any insight, please post it in the comments section.

Regarding good paper plate awards for sports, keep in mind the awards don't have to be directly related to swimming, hockey, basketball, cheerleading, golf, volleyball, softball or to any sport at all. Don't get hung up on puns. Instead, think about the characteristic of the award recipient. Here are a few more ideas from FunAwards.com that work:
  • Selective Hearing Impairment Award for the player who never listens to the coach
  • Loch Ness Award for the team member who is always missing practice
  • Running with the Bulls Award for the person who takes the most chances.
These aren't necessarily sports-related, but they can work with a little creativity. And hey, they're FREE!

National Volunteer Week

Volunteer Recognition Day, commonly referred to as Volunteer Appreciation Day, always occurs on April 20 (according to Holiday Insights). Volunteer Recognition Day falls on Wednesday, April 20, 2011.

If one day isn't enough time for you to celebrate, the entire week is known as Volunteer Recognition Week and the entire month of April is Volunteer Recognition Month.

Well, maybe...

According to the Hands on Network website, National Volunteer Week 2011 will take place April 10 - 16, 2011, "in order to avoid conflicts with religious holidays."

Well, at least we can all agree that April is officially Volunteer Appreciation Month... I mean Volunteer Recognition Month.

The point is to recognize and appreciate your volunteers. Ideally you would do this year-round. But at least do it once sometime in or around the month of April. Typical gifts for Volunteer recognition include gift certificates, lunch, and gift baskets.

Funny Volunteer Awards
This year, throw your volunteers their own Awards Show gala. You can do it on the cheap, and it's a good way to recognize and have fun at the same time. Ignore the term "employee" and find volunteer awards in 101 Funny Awards by comedian Larry Weaver. It will give you all the tools you need to throw a fun recognition ceremony for your staff.

Pastor Appreciation Ideas

Pastor Appreciation Day 2010 was October 10. If you missed it, don't worry - you can appreciate your pastor year-round. Just be sure you mark your calendar now for Pastor Appreciation Day 2011 (also known as National Clergy Appreciation Day 2011), coming up on October 11, 2011.

According to Hallmark.com, Clergy Appreciation National Day of Honoring is always the second Sunday in October. The celebration was established in 1992 with a mission is to uplift and encourage pastors, missionaries and religious workers. Furthermore, all of October is National Clergy Appreciation Month, or Pastor Appreciation Month - whatever you prefer to call it.

Favorite pastor appreciation verses or scriptures include...
1 Thessalonians 5:12-13
"Now, brothers and sisters, we ask you to appreciate those who work hard among you, who lead you in the Lord and teach you.  Respect them with a very special love because of the work they do."
  (NCV)

"And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves." (King James Version)

Popular ideas for pastor appreciation include gifts such as poems, cards, skits, letters, plaques, or speeches. Many churches will hold a special sermon or program. Some congregations looking for a little pastor appreciation humor will hand out printable awards like these funny certificates.

Pastor Appreciation

No matter what you do, follow the Apostle Paul's advice and "esteem them very highly in love". And not just on Pastor Appreciation Day - but year-round.

Funny Awards for Restaurant Staff

I'm looking to create some funny awards for restaurant staff. Working in the food service industry is a constant source of humor from both customers and coworkers. What better way to blow off some steam than with a little humor? I need ideas for waiters, waitresses, hostesses, kitchen staff, cooks, busboys - anyone involved in food service.

These are for employee awards that you might hand out to coworkers at an end-of-the-year awards ceremony. Plays on restaurant terms like weeds, 86, busing, etc. make great award names. Or focus on common characteristics like always mixing up orders, forgetting the daily specials, or most likely to drop a plate. Examples might be:
  • The Eighty Six Award - for the wait person who is always out
  • The Weed Whacker Award - for being able to handle any situation
  • Jack and the Beanstalk Award - for best upsell
If you look around this site, you'll find tons of free award ideas you could use for food service professionals. Awards like these can be used for any worker - not just those who work in an office environment:

funny awards

I really just need ideas and terms specific to the restaurant industry. Don't worry too much about making the awards funny - I can do that. If I get a strong enough response, I'll put the collection together in a new eBook as a companion to my current best-seller Funny Employee Awards. And if I up use your funny award idea in the eBook, I'll make sure you get a complimentary copy when it comes out.

Please submit your award ideas here, post them in the comments section, or email me directly.
